Gordon Private Hospital is a mental health hospital in Sydney. We are proud to have some of Australia’s leaders in mental health treatments, with a multidisciplinary team of doctors who are able to assist in your recovery in a holistic way. Our consultant psychiatrists, psychologists, art therapists, dieticians, and more are all here to listen, respect, and provide guidance for you along the way.

Known for our inpatient mental health services, admission to Gordon Private Hospital does require a referral from your general practitioner or psychiatrist. You’re welcome to call us at any time to learn how to get a referral and the process to take advantage of our comprehensive services.

Dr Dinah Bennett

MBBS, MRCPsych, MPhil, FRANZCP, PG Certificate in CBT

Dr Dinah Bennett is a consultant psychiatrist. She is the Director of Medical Services at Gordon Private Hospital and is a Conjoint Senior Lecturer at the School of Psychiatry at the University of NSW. She completed her undergraduate medical training at the University of Sydney and then completed post-graduate psychiatric training in the United Kingdom (Edinburgh). She has completed a MPhil (research master’s degree) in psychiatry studying cross cultural presentations of eating disorders.

Dr Bennett is a Fellow of the Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and has experience in the public and private sectors treating a range of mental health conditions including psychosis, bipolar disorder, depression and anxiety and borderline personality disorder. She has a particular interest in cognitive behaviour therapy and atypical presentations of eating disorders. She also has an interest in the pharmacological treatment of binge eating disorders.

Dr Peter Hoey

BMedSc, MBBS (1st Hons), FRANZCP

Dr Peter Hoey is a consultant general adult psychiatrist. He completed his undergraduate training at the University of Queensland and is a Fellow of the Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. He has had university teaching and public hospital experience. He has previously held several executive positions within the Section (now Faculty) of Psychotherapy of the College of Psychiatrists. Dr Hoey’s particular areas of interest are young adult patients and patients suffering from treatment refractory mood disorders.

Dr Sushmita Hunter

MBBS, FRANZCP

Dr Hunter has over 30 years’ experience as a medical practitioner and psychiatrist. She studied for her medical degree at the University of New South Wales and graduated in 1989 with Honours (MBBS). She has been an examiner for the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Dr Hunter is a consultant psychogeriatrician (old age psychiatrist) and has also worked with the Black Dog Institute for many years managing mood disorders in all age groups. Dr Hunter specialises in pharmacotherapy and is good at managing medications for mood & anxiety disorders. She is a good listener and will spend time with patients on issues other than medication and will not prescribe medications unless they are necessary.

Dr Vivienne James

MBBS, FRANZCP

Dr Vivienne James is a consultant psychiatrist who has experience across a variety of settings in both the private and public sector. She is a graduate of Sydney University and a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. Dr James has a collaborative approach to patient care. Her treatment plans are multi-modal and include psychological and social interventions as well as pharmacotherapy.

Dr Artin Jebejian

MB BCh, MSc, DPM, FRANZCP

Dr Artin Jebejian is a consultant psychiatrist and Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. He has been practising psychiatry since 1983 and has trained at the Black Dog Institute. Dr Jebejian has been involved with the teaching, supervision and examination of undergraduate and postgraduate medical students.

Dr Jebejian has extensive experience in various clinical settings in both the public and private sectors including acute mental health units, community services, consultation and liaison psychiatry, alcohol and drugs, adolescent and perinatal psychiatry and emergency psychiatry. Dr Jebejian is easy to engage with and can provide both psychopharmacological and psychological interventions.

Dr Sonia Kumar

MBBS (Hons), FRANZCP

Dr Sonia Kumar is an experienced consultant psychiatrist currently working across private inpatient and outpatient settings, with an emphasis on mood disorders (including Bipolar disorder) sleep disorders, perinatal disorders and youth mental health. She has been extensively involved in psychiatry education for doctors and patients over a number of years, designing and running a variety of courses via the University of Sydney. Dr Kumar attained Fellowship of the RANZCP in 2003 and has treated the full spectrum of mental health problems in private and public practice. Dr Kumar provides a comprehensive mental health assessment and individualised treatment plan for each patient, combining medication, psychological therapies and lifestyle changes. Dr Kumar takes a collaborative, trauma-informed approach to patient care, focusing on patient education, recovery and building positive mental health.

Dr Nicole Melidonis

BMed, MRCPsych, FRANZCP

Dr Nicole Melidonis is a general adult psychiatrist who has a broad experience working in a wide range of psychiatric settings (both public and private). She trained both in the UK and Australia and is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (UK) and a Fellow of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. Dr Melidonis is well known for her ability to form rapport with her patients and combines psychopharmacology and psychotherapeutic interventions to obtain the best outcomes.

Dr Paul Praser Psychiatrist Sydney Gordon

Dr Paul Praser

MBBS, FRANZCP

Dr Paul Praser specialises in providing comprehensive psychiatric assessment and treatment services, focusing primarily on addiction and ADHD, as well as general psychiatry.  He obtained his medical qualifications from the University of Sydney and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. He holds an Advanced Training Certificate in Addiction Psychiatry and received training from institutions such as St. Vincent's Hospital, Royal North Shore Hospital, and Prince of Wales Hospital. With extensive experience in both private and public sectors, he has previously served as a Staff Specialist with Justice Health.

Dr Praser has a particular interest in the psychotherapeutic approach. He approaches patient care holistically and thoroughly. He stays up-to-date with the latest evidence-based treatments to ensure the highest quality of care. He understands that optimal treatment often requires a multi-dimensional approach and he values collaboration with patients and families. Scientia Professor Gordon Parker AO

MBBS, MD, PHD, DSC, FRANZCP, FASSA

Professor Gordon Parker AO is Scientia Professor of Psychiatry at the University of New South Wales. He was the founder and Executive Director of the Black Dog Institute from 2002-2011. He was, for nearly two decades, Head of the School of Psychiatry at UNSW and Director of the Division of Psychiatry at Prince of Wales and Prince Henry Hospitals. Professor Parker has an international research profile having published over 1,000 academic papers, 23 books and in 2004 was awarded a Citation Laureate as the Australian researcher most highly referenced in Psychiatry/Psychology. Recognised internationally as a leading authority, Professor Parker provides high level clinical assessments for patients with treatment resistant mood disorders. Dr Selina Stanton

MBBS, BSc, Dip Counselling

Dr Selina Stanton completed her medical training at the UNSW in Sydney. Following her hospital training she worked as a General Practitioner (GP) for 15 years before returning to hospital employment. Dr Stanton’s continuing studies have included advanced majors in relationship and addiction counselling, CBT training and gaining accreditation for opioid treatment in NSW. As CMO, Dr Stanton reviews all patients on admission and works daily in the inpatient units to care for any general medical needs. She also supports the psychiatrists in the mental health management of their patients.

Dr Vladimir Sazhin

MMedSci, FRANZCP

Dr Vladimir Sazhin is an experienced consultant psychiatrist with expertise in treating patients with mood disorders, including treatment-resistant depression and Bipolar Affective Disorder, severe anxiety disorders, eating disorders associated with anxiety and depression and transcultural psychiatry. Dr Sazhin has worked extensively in the public and private sectors and sees patients from 16 years of age upwards.

Dr Jane Tubby

MBBS, FRANZCP, Cert.Child.Adol.Psych

Dr Jane Tubby is a Child, Adolescent and Family Psychiatrist. She graduated in medicine from the University of London, and completed postgraduate training in psychiatry in Sydney. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, and a member of the Faculty of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr Tubby has extensive experience in managing adolescents and their families in both inpatient and community settings. She utilises both psychotherapeutic and psychopharmacological techniques in the context of the family system.

Dr Eileen Vuong, Consultant Psychiatrist, Gordon Private Hospital Sydney Mental Health

Dr Eileen Vuong

MBChB, FCPsych, MMed(Psych), FRANZCP, PhD

Dr Eileen Vuong has been a consultant psychiatrist for the past 8 years and has worked in the public, private and academic sector providing care to culturally, ethnically, and socio-economically diverse patient groups. She is an avid researcher, holds a PhD in psychiatry and an academic position as an Adjunct Senior Lecturer with the University of NSW. Dr Vuong has a passion for women’s mental health and a particular interest in the treatment of mood disorders, posttraumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorders, obsessive and compulsive disorder. Dr Vuong provides a holistic, individualised treatment plan, collaborating with patients through every part of the treatment process, with an emphasis on wellness and the building of resilience.

Dr Michael Williamson

MBBS, FRANZCP, M Med

Dr Michael Williamson is a consultant psychiatrist and psychotherapist now working in private practice after a lengthy experience in the public mental health system. He was one of the foundation members of the Australian & New Zealand Association of Psychotherapy and twice New South Wales President. He has been Clinical Director of a number of Areas of the New South Wales Mental Health Service. Dr Williamson has had extensive experience in the psychotherapy of severe Borderline Personality Disorder and developmental trauma-based psychological illnesses, as well as military and police PTSD.

He is a long-term member of the Faculty of the University of Sydney Master of Medicine Program which teaches the Conversational Model an evidence-based approach for working with complex trauma, personality disorders and treatment resistant depression. He was a Senior Lecturer in Psychiatry at the University of Newcastle, Australia, and Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Western Sydney before moving to private practice.

Dr Nishant Wankhede

MBBS, MD Psychiatry, FRANZCP

Dr Nishant Wankhede is a Consultant Psychiatrist with two decades of combined experience of working as a Psychiatrist in public as well as private sector. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrist. He sees a broad range of patients with all types of complex mental health disorders. He strives for a fine and delicate balance of Psychiatric medications along with Psychological as well Social interventions in the recovery of his patients and likes to work in collaboration with families and other clinicians involved in the patients care.

He was the Medical Director of Psychiatry of The Hills Clinic Kellyville for several years. Prior to this he has also been the Director of Psychiatry and Medical Superintendent at Macarthur-Wingecaribee Mental Health Services for several years. He is a guest Lecturer and Examiner at the Medical School at the University of Western Sydney and also a Conjoint Senior Lecturer of Psychiatry at University of New South Wales. He is an accredited supervisor of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrist for trainee Psychiatrist. 

He sees patients from 15 years of age and over.
