MENTAL HEALTH OUTCOMES

Gordon Private Hospital measures improvements in patients’ mental health using validated, internationally recognised outcome measures.

The Health of the Nation Outcome Scales (HoNOS) is used to assess changes in health and social functioning in people with mental illness. HoNOS is specifically designed for use in general adult mental health services. Assessments are completed on admission and again prior to discharge. A reduction in the HoNOS score at discharge indicates an improvement in the patient’s mental health and functioning, with lower scores reflecting better outcomes.

In addition, Gordon Private Hospital utilises the Mental Health Questionnaire-14 (MHQ-14), an internationally recognised patient self-report measure. The MHQ-14 evaluates symptoms such as fatigue, anxiety and depression, as well as the impact of these symptoms on social and role functioning. Patients complete the MHQ-14 on admission and again prior to discharge. An increase in the MHQ-14 score at discharge reflects the patient’s perceived improvement in their mental health, with higher scores indicating better outcomes.

The charts below present Gordon Private Hospital’s HoNOS and MHQ-14 results for 2025.

Clinical Indicators

Gordon Private Hospital participates in the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) Clinical Indicator Program to monitor and evaluate the quality and safety of clinical care. The program compares the hospital’s performance against industry standards and similar hospitals across Australia. The results presented are derived from data submitted for the reporting periods covering the first half of 2024, the second half of 2024, and the first half of 2025 and are used to support continuous quality improvement initiatives across the hospital. The results help the hospital identify areas for improvement to maintain high standards of patient care.
